BARNSTABLE – Cape and Islands District Attorney Michael O’Keefe identified the man found in Vineyard Sound yesterday as Luciano Rebay, 86.
The Coast Guard recovered Rebay’s body Monday morning off the coast of Makonikey Head in West Tisbury.
U.S. Coast Guard Senior Chief Chris Schulte, out of Woods Hole, said a fisherman reported spotting the body a half nautical mile from the shore at 6:52 a.m.
Crews determined the man was dead and did not attempt CPR.
Crews turned the body over to the state’s medical examiners for further investigation.
A cause of death has not been determined.
