HYANNIS – The state has again chosen the Community Action Committee of Cape Cod and the Islands to be the area’s Health Care Navigator for the uninsured.

The agency was also awarded a grant to help with the work of assisting the uninsured navigate through the Affordable Care Act’s marketplaces.

In order to win the designation, the agency’s staff had to demonstrate proficiency in the Act’s requirements and other criteria.

This is the second year in a row that CACCI has been chosen by the Massachusetts Health Connector for the region.

During this competitive grant process, CACCI demonstrated staff knowledge of the Affordable Care Act, cultural competency, and outreach ability.

As part of the Affordable Care Act, Navigator programs operate in all states, including those with federally-facilitative Marketplaces.

In Massachusetts, the program is funded by the Health Connector and will focus not only on the remaining uninsured, but also on those current Health Connector members who are transitioning to new health insurance plans.

The Navigator program is part of a broader outreach and education effort that with include direct mailings, phone calls and other connections to existing Health Connector members about action they need to take to maintain coverage.

The Health Connector named the Community Action Committee as one of 15 Navigators across Massachusetts.

Navigators will help consumers understand the new coverage options available through the ACA and find the most affordable coverage that meets their needs.

Navigators assist consumers from application through enrollment.

“CACCI thanks the Health Care Connector for their support and partnership in an effort to increase healthcare access across the Cape and Islands, and looks forward to continuing to provide consumer tools to those we serve,” said Executive Director Stefanie Coxe.
