BUZZARDS BAY – The US Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration has found that there were safety violations in connection with the death of two crane workers in Buzzards Bay in April.
An investigation by the organization says the deaths of Joseph Boyd and John Loughran could have been prevented.
OSHA says the Massachusetts Bay Electrical Corporation failed to properly train employees on the proper use of the crane and failed to follow protocol on workplace safety.
The company faces $168,000 in fines.
The crane tip-over happened on April 12, 2014, in Bourne.
The OSHA inspection determined that the crane had not been set up and operated according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
