Construction on New Fire Station to Begin in 2017, Brewster Chief Says

KA_Brewster_Fire Department Truck Rescue18_111615BREWSTER – Now that the new $13.4 million fire station has been approved by town voters, Fire Chief Robert Moran said he expects work to begin by spring of 2017.

The project won support during the November 16th special town meeting, after years of discussion and a failed vote in 2014.

The plans detail the construction of a 5-bay, 22,000 square foot facility, utilizing the current structure and building around that further into the property.

Moran said the current facility lacks necessary storage space and room for the 41 employees who currently work there.

“It was designed in 1974 as a dual police and fire station, it was never designed to be a state of the art facility that could house a fire department of today’s standards,” he said.

According to Moran, the department is the largest combination department on the Cape.

He said design documents will be created allowing construction bids to begin next fall.
