SANDWICH – Neighbors of Heritage Museums and Gardens have filed an appeal of the Sandwich Zoning Board of Appeals approval of the museum’s controversial aerial adventure exhibit.
Neighbors have argued that the exhibit, which includes a zip line, is out of character with the museum and are concerned about additional noise and traffic in the residential neighborhood.
Neighbors have also accused Heritage of trying to pass the project through quietly, while not engaging them in discussion about the impact on the area.
“We don’t want people to think we’re against them. We are not against Heritage. We are against this project in the current management and the way they’re pushing it through, pretending that they’re telling people what’s going on, but they’re not,” said Carlo Depersio, a neighbor of Heritage.
Neighbors are also opposed to the museum’s plans to alter scenic roads in the neighborhood. The museum has received a state grant for the work.
“We can’t change those roads for no reason. They’re beautiful, there’s no problem up there. They called it safety, and safety, in my mind, is absolutely ridiculous. They’ve never had a problem; everybody’s going two miles-an-hour in that area.”
The appeal is scheduled to be heard on October 28.
