COTUIT – The Cotuit Fire department budget is expected to get a lot of debate at the Cotuit Fire District’s annual meeting tonight.
Cotuit Fire District Prudential Committee member Laurie Hadley said, an unusual item on the warrant is a citizens petition asking the district to spend $235,000 to purchase a conservation restriction for 16 wooded acres surrounding Lowell Park, the baseball field where the Cotuit Kettleers play.
“Part of the land is considered in a zone of distribution for one of the well fields, which is why they felt they could come to us, and I understand something similar has been done in the past,” Hadley said.
Besides the land request, another big budget request is $236,000 for a new ambulance for the fire department.
The meeting is at 7:30 tonight at Freedom Hall on Main Street in Cotuit.
