HYANNIS – The toll of substance abuse in the region has costs above and beyond what most people in the region see.

Barnstable County Director of Human Services Beth Albert, Senior Project Manager Vaira Harik, and Coordinator of the Barnstable County Substance Abuse Council have worked together to analyze those costs.

They explain the work they have done in the interview below:

The new report is the county’s way of responding to the trend of substance abuse and the impact it has on family life, productivity and one’s sense of self.

The Barnstable County Commissioners are convening, through its Department of Human Services, the Barnstable County Substance Abuse Council.

The council’s purpose is to have a coordinated and comprehensive regional approach to substance abuse across the continuum of prevention, treatment, criminal justice and recovery.
