D-Y Regional High School Hosts 2nd Annual Dolphin Dash on Saturday

YARMOUTH – In an effort to reduce student athletic user fees, Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School is holding the 2nd Annual Dolphin Dash on Saturday.

Around 350 runners participated in the event at the school last year to raise money to subsidize part of the $100-per-student sports fee which families are charged if their students join a team.

“We allow for the students who can’t afford it and families who can’t afford it, but quite frankly it’s always some families who everybody thinks can afford it, really can’t and kids struggle to pay it,” said D-Y Regional School Committee Member Brian Carey.

The 2016 Dash resulted in a $50 reduction in athletic user fees per sport.

The goal for organizers this year is to have 500 runners, making more of an impact on the athletic user fees.

Eventually organizers want to eliminate the fees altogether for next year.

“The D-Y Dolphin Dash is really kicking up, it’s starting to take hold and grow and we think this is going to be a great event for years to come,” said Carey.

There will be a pre-race pasta dinner that takes place from 5-7 p.m at the D-Y Café on Friday, before the race begins on Saturday at 10 a.m.
