SANDWICH – Athletes at Sandwich High School may soon be using a new turf field after all.
Sandwich voters rejected a ballot question a few weeks ago calling for a Proposition 2 1/2 tax override of $500,000 to fund the project.
Bu, subsequently, State Senate President Therese Murray (D-Plymouth) inserted funding into the state budget to install the field.
The new sports complex at Sandwich High is named after Navy Captain Jerry DeConto, who died during the 9/11 attack on the Pentagon.
His brother David DeConto said the project is in honor of all veterans.
The funding still needs to pass through a conference committee with Senate and House members.
