PLYMOUTH – State Senator Vinny deMacedo, who was elected to take over Senate President Therese Murray’s Plymouth and Barnstable district, has been appointed as the ranking Republican member of the Senate Committee on Ways and Means. Murray had long headed the committee in her position as senate president.

The Senate Committee on Ways and Means considers the operating and capital budget bills and related legislation, including the authorization of state debt. The Committee also deals with tax policy and other fiscal issues such as pension policy and compensation in addition to bills with operating budget fiscal impacts.

Senate Minority Leader Bruce Tarr (R-Gloucester) made the appointment.

“Senator deMacedo distinguished himself as an outstanding member of the House Committee on Ways and Means over the past 12 years while serving as a State Representative from Plymouth.” said the Senate Minority Leader. “Senator deMacedo brings extraordinary experience, knowledge and insight to his new position as ranking member of the Senate Committee on Ways and Means. His colleagues in the House, on both sides of the aisle, valued and respected Vinny’s intelligence, in-depth understanding of the Commonwealth’s finances and budget, as well as his hard work, diligence and non-partisan solution-oriented approach. We know that the contributions he will make as the Ranking Minority Member of the Senate Committee on Ways and Means will be immediate, continuing, and meaningful.”

As for deMacedo, he responded noting his interest in fiscal prudence. “I am incredibly honored by the faith Minority Leader Tarr and the Republican caucus have shown in me. I look forward to the opportunity to demonstrate my dedication to fiscal prudence and responsibility on behalf of the Republican party and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts,” he said.
