Duffy to Host Christmas in July

HYANNIS – It may seem to be an odd time for a Christmas-themed charity event, but Duffy Health Center is doing it anyway in order to ensure that the area’s homeless population have a holly-jolly summer.

The agency has announced their “Christmas in July” drive to benefit those in need on Cape Cod. Duffy is currently collecting items to help the homeless be safe in the summer heat.

They are seeking donations of sunscreen, bug spray, new t-shirts, hats, snacks, and toiletry items like deodorant, toothbrushes, and towels. As always, cash will be accepted as well to aid in the purchase of backpacks.

Arlene Crosby is a case manager with Duffy and says that a small act of generosity goes a long way, “So many of our clients aren’t equipped to stay safe from the sun, the mosquitoes, and the other elements in the summertime. The items distributed during Christmas in July really help them out.”

Duffy Health Center will be collecting donations for the program at their Hyannis facility, located at 94 Main Street. Goods should be dropped off at the reception desk between 8 AM and 5 PM Monday through Friday.

Crosby adds that the donations will be distributed throughout the summer and bring holiday cheer to a population who could use it, “I always notice what joy it brings out in them, to know that someone thought to gather these useful items for them.”
