Falmouth Commodores to Name New Press Box Space After Longtime Volunteer

FALMOUTH – Some renovations at the home of the Falmouth Commodores will be dedicated in the memory of a longtime volunteer.

The second floor of the press box at Guv Fuller Field will be named in honor of Pat Loftus, who spent many a summer night working with team interns in the press box during games.

The space will be known as “Pat’s Loft.” A formal dedication ceremony is planned for July 10.

Loftus began volunteering with the Commodores shortly after he moved to Cape Cod full-time in 2005. He spent a decade mentoring college interns, who, like the players in the Cape Cod Baseball League, are hoping to one day hit the majors in their own careers.

Loftus died in 2015.

“What was great about Pat was he’d always come over and ask, ‘how’s your son doing?’ He was a great mentor to those kids, and so family oriented and I think he also gave them life lessons,” said Mark Kasprzyk, the President of the Falmouth Commodores.

The renovations to the Eric Palmer Press Box were made possible by a community fundraising effort. The team says they received between $90,000 and $100,000 for the improvements.

As part of the work, the old press box was moved 10 feet back from the backstop. New shingles were added, the team merchandise shop was refurbished, and the equipment storage shed was enlarged. The second floor includes a new deck and space for gameday workers and interns.

The press box improvements represent the beginning of planned-for improvements to Guv Fuller Field. Officials are hoping to build a new backstop and dugouts, expand seating, improve the sound system, and add extra safety netting.
