Falmouth Service Center Invites Community to Annual Meal

MealFALMOUTH – The Falmouth Community Thanksgiving Day Dinner is Thursday from noon to 4 p.m.

Partaking in the meal, which is open to all, is a chance to join others in the Falmouth community for a special Thanksgiving Day meal.

This annual feast takes places at The Navigator Club on Ashumet Road in East Falmouth.

Attendees are asked to, if possible, bring a donation of a canned good for the Falmouth Service Center.  Monetary donations earmarked for this event may be sent to the Falmouth Service Center.  (Note Thanksgiving dinner in the memo field)

The following items are needed for the meal:  Baked goods, Ziploc bags, plastic wrap, paper towels, and small dessert plates.  If you can donate these items, please drop them off on Wednesday, November 26 from noon to 4 p.m.

If you need a meal delivered  on Thanksgiving, call Sue at Falmouth Human Services (508-548-0533 ext. 10) by Tuesday, November 25.

To volunteer for this event, call Crisy at 508-548-4409.  For more information on the event, please call Debbie at 508-540-4218.

In addition to the annual meal, the Falmouth Service Center is helping 900 families in need this year, which is up from the number needing help in putting food on the table for Thanksgiving last year.

But Center Executive Director Brenda Swain said Falmouth residents have come through for the center to fill the need for turkeys and other food for the annual Thanksgiving distribution.

The center received over 800 turkeys last year in their food drive.

Swain said she asked for fewer turkeys from the Boston Food Bank this year, knowing that other food pantries were also in need, because she had faith that the Falmouth community would come through with the needed donations. She said she counts on the generosity of the public to help the needy this Thanksgiving.

“This community in Falmouth is very special and we know that they will rise to the need and we’re counting on that,” Swain said.

The Falmouth Service Center accepted Thanksgiving food donations from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday at their warehouse. Volunteers used the donations to put together Thanksgiving meals for those in need.
