Falmouth Wants to Protect Woods Hole Historic District from Over-Development

FALMOUTH – Falmouth selectmen want to execute a contract with the Cape Cod Commission to protect the Woods Hole Historic District from over-development.

The Commission would then work with the historical commission to develop a plan to encourage smart growth.

Selectmen unanimously voted to execute a contract with the Cape Cod Commission earlier this month.

“We’re sort of combining some of these ideas and thinking ahead, thinking about smart growth and how we can manage this growth,” said historical commission vice-chair Nicole Goldman.

While the Commission would put together a plan for future development, they would also look at pedestrian and bicycle access in the district.

“It looks like a highway, so people treat it like a highway and it goes very fast and we would like to slow it down, make it feel like you’re entering a village,” said Goldman.

The Commission previously completed work on a similar plan for the Davis Straits corridor.
