WASHINGTON (AP) — A familiar name from Massachusetts, Rep. Joe Kennedy III, is carrying the family legacy in battling Republicans over health care.
Kennedy is the 36-year-old grandson of the late Sen. Robert F. Kennedy and great-nephew of the late Sen. Ted Kennedy and President John F. Kennedy.
He has emerged as a major Democratic voice against Republican health care legislation, giving speeches in a House committee’s all-night session that have now been viewed millions of times on the internet.
In one speech in the Energy and Commerce Committee, he took on House Speaker Paul Ryan. Ryan had said the legislation was an “act of mercy.” Kennedy called it an “act of malice.”
