First Degree Murder of Jordan Mendes Upheld for Vacher

police carHYANNIS – Cape & Islands District Attorney Michael O’Keefe announced today that the Supreme Judicial Court has affirmed the first-degree murder conviction of Robert Vacher.

In November 2011, Vacher was convicted in the December 2008 shooting and stabbing death of Jordan Mendes in Hyannis.

In the appeal, the Supreme Judicial Court rejected Vacher’s claims that he was entitled to suppression of his statement to the police and the evidence found in his silver BMW.

The Court also found that Vacher was not prejudiced by testimony given at his trial by immunized witnesses.

Vacher is serving a sentence of life without the possibility of parole.

The trial was prosecuted by former Assistant District Attorney Lisa F. Edmonds.

The appeal was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Julia K. Holler.
