Grocery Shoppers on Cape Can Help Local Non-profit

A new Whole Foods Market is opening tomorrow in Hyannis.

HYANNIS – Cape residents that need to do some post holidays grocery shopping can give back to a local non-profit at the same time.

Whole Foods in Hyannis will donate 5 percent of its net sales on Tuesday, January 5th to Duffy Health Center’s “In from the Streets” program.

“They chose us. They really like the mission of the Duffy Health Center,” said Elyse DeGroot, the director of community relations and marketing for Duffy Health Center. “And the money that we raise from that day will go towards our operation ‘In from the Streets’ program which helps people get in from the streets in the winter time when the weather is bad across the Cape.”

DeGroot said the funds from the event will be wonderful for the non-profit organization.

“Everybody does have to go grocery shopping so it’s a win-win for everybody,” she said.

The mission of Duffy Health Center is to improve the quality of life for individuals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness on the Cape through medical, mental health, addiction treatment, case management and housing support services.

Duffy has served more than 3,200 clients from across the Cape this year.

Whole foods holds several 5 percent Tuesdays each year that benefit local non-profit or educational organizations.
