Hearing Set for Turbine Facility in New Bedford

windfarmBARNSTABLE – The Massachusetts Clean Energy Center will host its 24th informational meeting tomorrow regarding the construction of the Marine Commerce Terminal in New Bedford this week.

The terminal is a multi-purpose facility designed to support the construction, assembly and deployment of offshore wind projects, as well as handle bulk, break-bulk, container and large specialty marine cargo, according to the energy center.

As part of construction, the project includes the dredging and remediation of approximately 280,000 cubic yards of contaminated sediment from New Bedford Harbor and the clean-up of approximately 18,000 tons of contaminated soils from the Terminal’s land side.

The first of its kind in North America, the Terminal will be engineered to sustain mobile crane loads that rival the highest capacity ports in the nation, according to the center.

Besides a terminal construction update, there will be a hiring update and a question and answer session.

The meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, November 17 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at New Bedford Public Library.

The library is located at 613 Pleasant Street in New Bedford.
