FALMOUTH – According to the Cape & Islands District Attorney’s office, the preliminary investigation into the human remains found in Beebe Woods in Falmouth suggests that foul play is not involved.
Falmouth police detectives and state police detectives assigned to the Cape and Islands District Attorney’s Office and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner are continuing to investigate.
Two Falmouth residents were walking their dogs in the woods Sunday night at about 6:15 when their dogs made the grisly discovery and police were called to the scene.
Falmouth Police Chief Edward Dunne, who was at the scene last night, said the remains were about a quarter mile from the path near Cape Cod Conservatory where the trail begins and about 200 to 300 yards off the trail itself.
The walking trails were closed from Sunday night through Monday to preserve the scene.
Yesterday afternoon, police were still on the scene collecting evidence.
No identification has been made yet.
Dunne said the remains have been sent to the Medical Examiner’s office to help identify them and more information will be released as it becomes available.
The matter remains under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the Cape and Islands District Attorney’s office, the Falmouth Police Department and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
