Hunt Receives Beacon Hill Committee Assignments

SANDWICH – State Representative Randy Hunt has received his committee assignments for the new legislative session.

The Sandwich Republican will serve on the Joint Committees on Transportation, Health Care Financing, and Telecommunications, Utilities and Energy. Hunt has been tapped as the Ranking Member on Health Care Financing and the Assistant Ranking Member on the Transportation committee.

Hunt is the only legislator from Cape Cod serving on those three committees.

Hunt returns to the Telecommunications, Utilities and Energy after serving on the committee during the last session. This marks the first time he has been appointed to the Health Care Financing committee.

“With health care costs eating up more and more of the state’s budget as well as our own personal budgets, I wish to bring my perspective as a CPA and business owner to the Joint Committee on Health Care Financing. My background on mental health and addiction-related policy matters from my years on the Mental Health and Substance Abuse committee should be a useful tool, as well,” said Representative Hunt. “Bending the curve downward on insurance premiums is crucial to maintaining affordability in Massachusetts and the country.”

Hunt’s appointment to the Joint Committee on Transportation comes at a time where the future of the Bourne and Sagamore bridges is being evaluated at the state and federal level. MassDOT and the Army Corps of Engineers are in the middle of a multi-year study of both spans.

In a statement, Hunt said he is prepared to take action on the recommendations of the Army Corps of Engineers and MassDOT come forward with.
