Hyannis Man Arrested and Charged with Assault to Murder

157867210 (1)HYANNIS – A 30-year-old Hyannis man is being held on $5,000 cash bail on charges of assault to rape and assault to murder after he allegedly threatened a woman with a steak knife and baseball bat.

According to Barnstable District Court records, a woman has been conversing with James Ellis on Facebook and traveled by taxi to meet with him last week, but when she arrived he held a knife to her throat.

When the taxi cab driver went in to assist the woman, Ellis grabbed a baseball bat and threatened both of them, according to records.

Ellis appeared in a dangerousness hearing Monday in which was set and conditions of release were levied. He is set to appear in a probable cause hearing scheduled for January 9th.
