Up-Island Taxpayers Mull School Budget, Proposed Increase

moneyWEST TISBURY – Taxpayers on Martha’s Vineyard could be paying more as a result of the Up-Island School District budget.

Officials have proposed a $10.7 million budget, an increase of about 8 and 1/2 percent, according to the Martha’s Vineyard Gazette.

Residents in West Tisbury would take on the largest share of that cost, with their bill increasing by about 13.8 percent over last year.

Taxpayers in West Tisbury, Aquinnah, and Chilmark would pay $841,000 more if the budget is approved as is.

A vote is scheduled for November 17.
