Jet Blue Barnstable Season to Run Through October 11th

Jet Blue - 6BARNSTABLE – Jet Blue’s first flight to Barnstable Municipal Airport from New York will arrive on May 12th, earlier than last year’s June start date.

However, the airline will also extend the service at the end of the season.

Airport Manager Bud Breault said that Jet Blue flights to and from JFK Airport will run Thursdays through Mondays until June, switching to full daily flights, and run twice weekly after Labor Day until October 11th.

“I think we’ve proven that there is definitely a good market here,” Breault said.

He said that Barnstable Municipal is following in the footsteps of Nantucket Memorial Airport, which slowly integrated increased service year-by-year in response to a growing market.

Inbound flights from New York are scheduled to arrive in Hyannis at 12:30 p.m., with departing flights back to New York set for departures at 1:06 p.m.

The news also comes on the heels of Island Airlines filing for bankruptcy. Breault said he hopes that this will show Barnstable Municipal Airport is a “viable air hub” for the area.

Additionally, Rectrix and Island Shuttle have filed for certificates from the FAA to fill in the gap left open by Island Airlines. Breault said he hopes those will be available for the summer.
