SANDWICH – A month after closing its doors to the public following legal battles with owner Joseph Vaudo, Joe’s Lobster Mart is back open.
The long-time fish dealer in Sandwich re-opened Monday afternoon under new owner Scott Thayer, who was previously the General Manager under owner Joseph Vaudo.
Thayer received the necessary permits to needed to re-open the store.
“That’s what kept me going, the support of the local people in the community,” said Thayer.
“They put aside everything that happened in the past and they were willing to step forward and pat me on the back and say keep going,” he said.
Thayer says Vaudo will remain as the lessee on the building, but will not be involved in the day-to-day operations of the store.
Vaudo had owned and operated the business for 43 years but was indicted last spring for buying stolen oysters.
