WEST YARMOUTH – An event later this month will celebrate the hard work of public safety pooches.

The 14th Annual Cape & Islands Police K-9 Relief Fund Reception and Fundraiser Auction will be held Sunday, February 26th at 3 p.m. inside the Yarmouth House Restaurant.

The event will feature a silent auction, raffle, music and refreshments with all proceeds benefitting retired police dogs and the medical bills their police officer owners often have to pay.

Organizer and former K-9 Unite officer Joe Ambrosini said that, oftentimes, people do not realize that retiring dogs become the responsibility of the officers, including expensive medical bills.

“My dog would have died for me or the public that needed it,” he said. “They work lousy hours, they’re stressed, they’re athletes, and they solve hours that most people don’t.”

Ambrosini said that other items such as supportive t-shirts will be sold to bolster the proceeds.

A recommended donation of $50 will be accepted at the door.
