BARNSTABLE – The latest jobs numbers are out for the Cape and Islands, showing an increase in employment over this time last year.
David Augustinho is the Executive Director of the Cape and Islands Workforce Investment Board.
He says the local September jobs rate, at 5.4 percent, could be an indication of a nationwide trend.
“We look at the new unemployment claims filed each week. That gives a really good indication of what’s going on in the economy and those numbers are the lowest they’ve been in 14 years,” Augustinho said.
Augustinho says the numbers are good for this time of year on Cape and attributes part of the lower unemployment rate here on increasing jobs in construction.
