SANDWICH – A group of neighbors of the Heritage Museums and Gardens in Sandwich have filed a lawsuit in Barnstable Superior Court and are hoping a judge will halt the construction process of the museum’s controversial zip line project.
The lawsuit asks the court to overturn a decision by the Sandwich Zoning Board of Appeals that ruled in favor of the building inspector’s decision to issue a building permit for the project.
Neighbors have also asked the court to temporarily stop the zip line’s construction, which they argue has been expedited amid the controversy.
“They’ve got a lot of zip lines up, cables and ladders and bridges, and it just looks like to me they’re trying to a point where people will have sympathy and not want them to have to take it all down,” said neighbor Carlo Dipersio.
Neighbors have argued that Heritage tried to sneak the project through without notifying residents. “We’re absolutely confident that, in a full hearing, they’re going to be in a lot of difficulties,” Dipersio said.
Dipersio has filed five complaints to town and state officials over the zip line project.
