Lightning Strikes Cause Damage to Homes

fire department patchMARSTONS MILLS – The Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills Fire Department responded to several 911 calls around 5:00 this morning reporting lightning strikes with possible fires.

Upon arrival, crews discovered moderate damage to five different homes and one vehicle.

Four of the homes were in Marstons Mills and one was in Osterville. All suffered damage to the structures and electrical systems of the homes.

One home had framing and trim damage to the garage, electrical system damage ot the entire home and one vehicle and physical damage to one vehicle, though no smoke or fire. The Town of Barnstable’s wiring inspector responded and checked the home. The homeowner will now need to contact an electrical contractor for service.

All of the structures that were hit by lightning were checked with thermal imaging cameras to look for heat damage and fires in the walls, but no fire were found.

COMM Fire Department also received a 911 call for a two-car crash with rollover and pole down on Calvin Hamblin Road at 7:26 this morning.

both drivers of the cards denied injury and refused transport to the hospital. Route 149 was closed awaiting arrival of NStar.
