Local Businesses Banking on Strong Holiday Season

BARNSTABLE – Analysts are predicting a strong holiday season for retailers, which should spell good news for local Cape businesses.

Falling gas prices and a decreasing unemployment rate are seen as some of the main factors for increase consumer confidence, which is coming at the most crucial time of year for most businesses

“It means well over fifty percent of [businesses] profits,” said Bill Vernon, Director of the National Federation of Independent Business. “The Cape has a unique economy in that they have obviously a very busy summer as well as a holiday season, but the holiday season for almost retailer anyway, and other small businesses, is very important,” Vernon added.

The Retailers Association of Massachusetts recently predicted a 3.9 percent increase in consumer spending this holiday season.
