Local Law Enforcement Cracking Down on Drunk Boating this Weekend

coast guard02YARMOUTH – There is a national effort to crack down on boating under the influence this weekend and the town of Yarmouth will be taking part in that effort.

Bill Binnetti, the Field Supervisor for the Yarmouth Division of Natural Resources said boating under the influence is the leading cause of boat fatalities.

“Anybody that we can get off the water that is under the influence is a plus for us because it only takes one person under the influence to cause a fatality to themselves or passengers,” Binnetti said.

The town of Yarmouth will not be alone this weekend in combatting the problem.

“It’s a joint effort between the Yarmouth Harbormaster Division, the National Association of State Boating Law administrators, the U.S. Coast Guard, The Massachusetts Environmental Police, Yarmouth Police and the Dennis Harbormaster Department,” Binnetti said.

The Yarmouth Harbormaster will have increased patrols and checkpoints all weekend long.
