HYANNIS – Captain Richard Phillips, who was portrayed by Tom Hanks in the film “Captain Phillips,” will be speaking at Barnstable High School Saturday evening to raise money for the Cape Cod Lyme Disease Wellness Center.

Ron Gangemi, the founder of Lyme Awareness of Cape Cod met Phillips a few years ago.

“I told him a little bit about our mission and then he told me that he would do a talk for us pro bono,” Gangemi said. “He’s just doing this for the cause and to help people. He’s a very generous, caring and giving man and he’s been a hero to many people.”

Phillips, who attended Massachusetts Maritime Academy, will discuss his life experiences and the dangers he faced on the high seas with Somali pirates.

Gangemi is hoping the event can raise a lot of money for the wellness center.

“Hopefully we can raise at least $25,000,” he said. “All that goes to the wellness center, patient care and education.”

The center is located in Mashpee at 17 Trinity Place.

Tickets for the talk can be ordered online in advance for $25 or at the door for $30. An event at the Yarmouth House will follow, with limited tickets available.
