Major Development in the Works for Buzzards Bay

Fireworks set off from the Cape Cod Canal Railroad Bridge will be one of the highlights of the Canal Centennial Celebration over the next five days.

BUZZARDS BAY – A major new development could be coming to Buzzards Bay.

The first phase of plans call for building a 100-plus room hotel on the Cape Cod Canal. Developers also hope to build a 7 story building with condos and a top floor restaurant overlooking the canal.

The proposed location for the development is a 15 acre parcel on Perry Avenue.

“It’s an exciting opportunity for Buzzards Bay. We think it will create a destination. It will be something that will bring people to Buzzards Bay,” said Project Consultant Christopher Bailey. “There isn’t a real good pedestrian or visual connection between Main Street and the canal. We think that with this development we can help to make that happen so that people coming through Buzzards Bay will feel like they are at the waterfront,” Bailey added.

Developers now need to go before the planning board.

If approved, they hope to break ground in the spring, with the hotel opening in summer 2016. Developers say the hotel will be linked to a national chain.
