Boater off Wellfleet Transported to Hospital

ER medical symbolWELLFLEET -A man was assisted by rescue squads in Wellfleet Harbor today after his prosthetic hip got dislocated while he was on his 48-foot catamaran, the “Sea Stalker,” off Great Island.

The boat was on Martens mooring in the harbor.

The Wellfleet Fire Department was notified at 5:49 a.m. with the report that the seagoer, John Martens, had dislocated his hip and needed to be transported to the hospital.

Because the tide was low, Martens waited until 9:30 a.m. when tide was high enough for him to motor his boat to the harbor. From there, rescue workers transported him to Cape Cod Hospital.

Assistant Harbormaster Chris Parkington said the rescue was routine.

Martens said earlier reports that his boat ran aground were incorrect.
