Mashpee Motorcyclist Medflighted after crash in Sandwich

ER medical symbolSANDWICH – A Medflight crew transported a Mashpee motorcyclist to Boston Medical center after an accident with another vehicle Monday in Sandwich.

Sandwich Police and Fire Rescue crews responded to the scene at the intersection of Route 6A and Jarves Street at 12:11 p.m. and found Robert Hadley, 59, on the ground next to his motorcycle with severe lower leg injuries.

Fire Department Cap. Scott Ames said rescue crews quickly determined Hadley needed to be taken to Boston because of the severity of the injuries and requested a medflight crew to assist at 12:21 p.m.

Rescue crews transported the victim to Henry T. Wing School where Medflight crews arrived at 12:39 p.m.

Crews loaded the victim and took off at 12:45 p.m.

“It was a fairly quick turnaround,” said Ames. “We could see the Medflight crew approaching as we were arriving at the Wing school.”

The operator of the car, Andrew Star, sustained no injuries.

Police cited Star, a 32-year-old West Newton resident, for failing to yield to oncoming traffic.

The crash remains under investigation by the Sandwich Police Department.
