MASHPEE – Mashpee Police Chief Scott Carline will not be heading north for a new job.

The Portsmouth, New Hampshire Police Commission picked Robert Merner, a top official from the Seattle, Washington Police Department, to be their new police chief.

Carline was one of the six finalists for the job. According to the Portsmouth Herald, the city made the announcement last Friday.

In a previous statement to the CapeCod.com NewsCenter, Carline said he remains dedicated to his job in Mashpee. He has been the police chief in town since 2015 when he replaced Rodney Collins, who left the department to become town manager.

He said his decision to apply for the New Hampshire job  was in no way a reflection on the Town of Mashpee.

Carline is a New Hampshire native.
