MassCEC Hosting Meeting on New Bedford Harbor Terminal Tuesday

windfarmNEW BEDFORD – The Massachusetts Clean Energy Center will host its 24th informational meeting regarding the construction of the Marine Commerce Terminal in New Bedford Tuesday, November 18.

The terminal is a multi-purpose facility designed to support the construction, assembly and deployment of offshore wind projects, as well as handle bulk, break-bulk, container and large specialty marine cargo.

As part of construction, the project includes the dredging and remediation of approximately 280,000 cubic yards of contaminated sediment from New Bedford Harbor and the clean-up of nearly 18,000 tons of contaminated soils from the terminals land side.

The first of its kind in North America, the terminal will be engineered to sustain mobile crane loads that rival the highest capacity ports in the nation.

The tentative agenda for the meeting will be discussions of terminal construction updates, project hiring updates and a question and answer session.

The meeting is at the New Bedford Public Library from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

The terminal has been contracted by Cape Wind for the 130 wind turbine project in Nantucket Sound.
