BOURNE – An upcoming meeting in Bourne will focus on a proposal to have a Cape Flyer train stop underneath the Bourne Bridge next summer.

Transportation officials are hoping to add a train platform where passengers traveling to the Upper Cape and the Vineyard can get on and off the train on the Cape side of the Cape Cod Canal.

Those passengers currently have to get off the train in Buzzards Bay.

“It’s just a convenience and something that will get people to the Cape without their cars. It will hopefully reduce a little congestion around the bridges,” said Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority Administrator Tom Cahir. “This would just allow our Cape Flyer train to stop for two minutes on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday to let people off there and to let people get back on.”

The proposal will be discussed at a meeting on December 1. The land eyed for the platform is owned by the state.
