SANDWICH – Residents in Sandwich will have an opportunity to voice their opinion on the plan to remove trees on Service Road to make way for the new underground gas line.
Some residents on Service Road are saying the removal of the trees will bring unwanted noise to the neighborhood from the adjacent mid-Cape highway.
The Cape Cod Commission has put forward a mitigation plan concerning the trees.
“[The plan] requires National Grid to put trees on the abutting property owners properties to take the place of the trees that are going to be eliminated,” said State Representative Randy Hunt (R-Sandwich)
Hunt represented neighbors in their opposition to the gas line proposal. With that decision finalized, he said residents can express their thoughts on the tree removal portion of the project on Thursday.
“The only issue that is outstanding now, and this is under the purview of the Select Board, is to provide a permit to National Grid to clear the trees on the north side of Service Road where the 20-inch pipeline is going to be laid,” Hunt said.
The trees line a 4.4 mile stretch of Service Road.
The meeting will be held on Thursday at 7 PM at Sandwich Town Hall.
