YARMOUTH – The Mill Hill Club, which started as an upscale club in the 1950s and 1960s and turned into a popular happy hour spot for young people in the 1970s and 1980s was demolished this morning to make way for a senior care facility.

The club on Route 28 in West Yarmouth closed for good in 2008 and has in recent years been called a blight by town officials.

But in its heyday, the club hosted national acts like B.B. King, Herb Reed of the Platters and the Grass Roots. Local acts that played at the club included Roundhouse, the Hennessy Brothers and the popular happy hour entertainer DJ Sullivan.

In 2012, Mayflower Place unveiled plans for the redevelopment of the site as a 75-bed Memory Care facility in conjuntion with a 50-unit expansion of their Independent Livign facility located on Buck Island Road.

The project is a key element in Yarmouth’s ongoing efforts to revitalize Route 28, according to town officials.

The $2.8.9 million expansion of the existing Mayflower Place senior residential care facility will provide employment opportunities, tax revenues and an improvement to the blighted property, Yarmouth chamber officials stated in a prepared release.
