Nantucket Airport Could Welcome New Commuter Airline

NANTUCKET – A new commuter airline could be coming to Nantucket Airport.

Island Shuttle is close to obtaining the required Federal Aviation Administration licenses to fly between Nantucket and Hyannis.

It would be the third airline to travel between the Island and Hyannis, including Cape Air and Rectrix Aviation.

“Competition’s always good and obviously the more frequency that we can offer to the customer, that’s a good advantage as well,” said Airport Manager Tom Rafter.

Richard Araujo owns an aircraft maintenance and fixed base operation out of New Bedford and has secured Cessna 402’s that were previously owned by Island Airlines.

“We can’t wait to have them come in, I know they’ve been working actively for quite a period of time, we would love to have them,” said Rafter.

There has been no date given for when they would begin service.
