Nantucket Voters Elect New Selectmen

NANTUCKET – Nantucket voters elected Jason Bridges and Rita Higgins to the Board of Selectmen in Tuesday’s election, as 32% of the island’s voters showed up at the polls.

They defeated four other candidates for the two available seats, including Linda Williams, Richard Ray, Stephen Maury and Clifford Williams.

Selectmen Bob DeCosta and Rich Atherton decided not to run for re-election this year.

In the race for two school committee seats, incumbents Tim Lepore and Zona Butler beat back a challenge from Randy Ringer.

Planning Board incumbent Nat Lowell defeated challenger Frederick McClure. For Land Bank Commission, Kristina Jelleme beat Marshall Beale.

In the race for Nantucket Historic District Commission Aileen Barth, Vallorie Oliver and Ray Rohl won seats.

Nantucket voters also approved a ballot question allowing town owned land to be used for a funeral home.
