Cape Cod National Seashore Advisory Commission Allowed to Continue Meeting

EASTHAM – The federal government will allow the Cape Cod National Seashore Advisory Commission to continue meeting.

The group meets every other month, except in summer months, to provide government with advice on how to best manage the 44,000-acre lands.

Commission Chair Rich Delaney was appointed to the body in the 1980s by Governor Michael Dukakis.

“Apparently they have found the advisory commission worthy of continuing and we certainly felt that, so we’re going to be back in business,” said Delaney.

The government told the commission to halt any future meetings last month while the new administration was transitioning.

Delaney said that he has never seen any similar kind of blocking from the federal level in his time on the commission.

“It’s been a very successful mechanism by which the towns can voice their recommendations and work with the park superintendent on park decisions that obviously are going to impact to some varying degrees, those towns,” said Delaney.

The group is looking at having its next meeting in mid to late September.
