National Seashore Finishes Repairs

cape cod genericEASTHAM – The Cape Cod National Seashore began its season this weekend with newly repaired facilities.

Repairs at Herring Cove Beach in Provincetown and Nauset Light Beach in Eastham were completed before Memorial Day weekend.

Cape Cod National Seashore Superintendent George Price said the damage happened during the first big storm this past winter.

There was a delay in getting the repairs completed because of a funding issue on the federal level, he said.

Besides the facility upgrades, another big change at the National Seashore this weekend is the Nauset Bike Trail, a new bike path that runs from the parking lot at the Salt Pond Visitor Center in Eastham to Coast Guard Beach. The path has been totally rehabbed.

All Cape Cod National Seashore Beaches are open year-round but the seashore begins charging on weekends on Memorial Day weekend.

The National Seashore gets four to five million visitors from spring through fall every year at their beaches and two visitor centers.
