NEW BEDFORD – A ground-breaking for the new Education Center and Research Library at the New Bedford Whaling Museum spells the start of an innovative summer of activities at the museum.
The ceremony took place Tuesday and marks the beginning of the 6.5 million project, the majority of which is funded through donations.
Whaling Museum President James Russell said the new center will be a meaningful addition to the museum and a big draw for the city.
Construction on the facility will begin in a few weeks. The building process should take about a year, he said.
