New England Governors in Talks with Eversource on Soaring Electricity Rates

lightbulbsBARNSTABLE – A group of New England governors, including Charlie Baker, met this week to discuss collaborative solutions to help cut energy costs.

Eversource, the electric company formerly known as NStar, is also involved in the talks.

Eversource spokesman Michael Durand said a big reason for high costs is outdated infrastructure.

Solutions, he said, include upgrading existing natural gas pipelines. The company’s Access Northeast partnership may help alleviate the bottleneck.

Massachusetts is joining Connecticut and Rhode Island to seek power purchase agreements for hydropower from Canada and other renewable energy options.
