New Group Seeks to Raise Money for Sandwich Non-Profits

Paul Houlihan and Tom Rockwell from The Fund for Sandwich, speak to selectmen.

SANDWICH – A new philanthropic organization, whose goal is to support a range of non-profit organizations in Sandwich, introduced themselves to selectmen at their meeting Thursday night.

The Fund for Sandwich is an affiliate of the Cape Cod Foundation, and is the third such entity on the Cape under the Foundation’s jurisdiction, with the first two being in Falmouth and Chatham.

The organization was created by Sandwich residents and community leaders who want to preserve the town by informed grant making.

“Money is getting extremely tight these days and in some cases, it doesn’t take a lot to get a program over the hump to be able to operate, and our intention and our goal is to really help that process along,” said Fund member Paul Houlihan.

The mission is to raise funds and give grants that strengthen the town.

The group is aiming to support a number of initiatives including human/elder services, educational and cultural enrichment and conservation issues.

“Donors will have an opportunity to just make a donation in general, saying you guys decide, or they’re willing to make a donation, but their interest is in x, y or z,” said Houlihan.

Members will be identifying new and first time donors to build an endowment for the future.

The fund is having its kick-off event on May 10 from 5-7 p.m. at the Pilot House.
