New Nantucket Hospital is Beginning to Take Shape

NANTUCKET – One month after breaking ground, construction of the new Nantucket Cottage Hospital is well underway. Crews have begun work on the foundation and steel will begin rising over the site later this week.

Hospital officials are cautioning members of the community that this next phase of the project will mean increased activity at the site, including noise, dust, and vibrations as the steel is cut and erected.

An upsurge in truck traffic to the area is also likely to cause some delays on Prospect Street.

“It’s a brand-new facility that will serve the island residents and visitors for generations to come,” said hospital public information officer Jason Graziadei.

The project is funded with private donations with a goal of $120 million, which will fund the new hospital and a housing component of the project.

The new building will be about 106,000 square feet on two floors and wraps around the current building.

A grand opening is planned for late 2018 and the final phase of the project includes taking down the current building, which will become a major part of the parking area for the new hospital.
