WOODS HOLE – The Steamship Authority’s new $43 million vessel, set to start running in 2016, now has a name.
Board members voted unanimously to name the new boat “Woods Hole.”
The name was selected from about 20 possibilities, and was chosen from four finalists, according to Steamship Authority General Manager Wayne Lamson.
The three other finalists were the Island Spirit, the Vineyard Sound, and the Quissett. The majority of the name suggestions came from Steamship Authority employees, he said.
Steamship Authority General Manager Wayne Lamson said they were thinking of having school children decide the name, but with school being out for the summer, they had to change plans.
The Woods Hole is set to launch in 2016.
