NHA to Celebrate Nantucket’s Jamaican Culture

NANTUCKET – The Nantucket Historical Association will continue its “Our Nantucket” series with a celebration of Jamaican culture.

The community diversity series focuses on the various cultures that make up the island community to highlight the differences of today’s Nantucketers.

“Our Nantucket” Jamaica will treat audiences to a number of cultural performances and live events.

Guests will also learn about Jamaican geography and trivia, listen to traditional folk songs and poetry, and admire traditional dress from several Jamaican parishes.

Dances will also be performed by Nantucket school children and adults from the community.

Each “Our Nantucket” program also features guest speakers who tell their stories of immigration and relocation to the island, along with sharing memories from their home countries.

The free event is Sunday, April 2 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Whaling Museum.
