Nickerson State Park Hosts 17th Cape Cod Against the Tide Event

BREWSTER – The Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition (MBCC) is holding its annual Against the Tide swim, kayak, walk and/or run fundraiser on Saturday.

The Cape Cod Against the Tide event will be held for the 17^th year at Nickerson State Park in Brewster.

Proceeds from the event benefit the MBCC, which is the state’s leading breast cancer organization that seeks to understand the causes of breast cancer in order to find ways to prevent the disease.

“There’s no question about the fact that we have a long way to go, it is a political issue, no question about it, but we need to continue to move forward,” said Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition Executive Director Cheryl Osimo.

The event consists of several components: competitive and recreational swims, recreational kayak, walk and USA track and field certified 5K/10K competitive and recreational runs.

There is also an Aquathon “Splash and Dash” component, where participants “splash” in the competitive one mile swim and immediately “dash” in the competitive 5K or 10K run.

Osimo said that the event is a boost for the MBCC’s efforts to continue their fight against breast cancer.

“We need to continue to move forward in order for the Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition to continue to do our advocacy work to help promote change to public policy, we need to keep this organization afloat,” said Osimo.
